Power of the Incarnation 03-05-2017

The primal impulse toward absolutism is hardwired into human beings. When humans are consumed by base absolutist instincts they use anything, including religion, as tools to justify their obsessions. The travesty of religion is it’s often twisted by domineering and controlling personalities. On the other hand, the unparalleled beauty of religion is its refinement by artists of the soul, sensitive and subtle, who touch holiness and fill the world with light.

Isaiah proclaims “Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain” (Isaiah 40:4). This is the power of the incarnation. The Divine Christ is brought low, taking the form of a servant. The human Jesus is glorified as no human being has ever been glorified—raised from the dead and venerated by roughly one third of the world’s population.
